I miss that. Not sure how relevant this is to the whole thread, since I haven't read it. Sorry. But just wanted to reminisce.
You've just described 0.0. You rent your space or you defend it. And crystal crokite is worth mining. Plus no .01 isk wars.
As far as never leaving highsec -- it's very possible the nano nerf will make roaming gangs a thing of the past. A properly blobbed & bubbled region is going to be even safer than highsec. And the rewards of 0.0 are very comprable to highsec. Better, even, if you're mid to low on the SP totem pole.

Edited by: Clair Bear on 09/08/2008 20:03:38 Fact: the only damage you can do to another player in eve is economic.
So yes, ISK production and consumption matter if you're playing for a goal. If not, they do not.
Oh, and 0.0 living is far less stressful, less laggy and lower impact than empire if you do it right. I can afk/dock when my baby needs me, unlike L4 mission running. And it's only going to get better with the nano nerf.
So what we have is:
1. Empire for beginning and 2+ year old characters. 2. 0.0 for 3 month to 2 year olds 3. Lowsec hard mode fight club for the jaded oldbies
I see nothing wrong with this. Variety good. Monotonous uniform tedium bad.

You cannot just decide to go to 0.0 in a lot of cases. There is a lot of front end loaded work that it takes to settle in successfuly. It isnt until these dues are paid that you can fully reap the rewards. The high start up costs is what keeps people out, because in a lot of cases the only way to gather the cash to intially settle in is...level 4 missions. That is the way it should be IMO
What are you talking about? Recruitment forums are full of carebear corps which ask nothing of you but your presence. A domi made out of rat droppings and fitted with rat droppings is what, a day of flying a salvage/loot ship? Hardly requires years of level 4 missioning to get at.
Search stain empire killboards of a few weeks ago to see what kind of free-after-insurance-and-then-some comedy setup I make 1.5B/month in ratting a couple of hours a day.

Originally by: mishkof [ You dont stay in 0.0 indefinately with those types of recruiting standards. There is a long line of defunct alliances that can surely tell you that.
And I would care... why? I don't have any friends that are alliance heads. I'm not planning on running an alliance. So long as there are rats there will be people renting out ratting space. And in need of producers.
The line of defunct alliances will just get longer. No skin off my nose.
